Academic Profile
Mehran Abdollahi is a PhD candidate in Cinema and Media Studies at the University of British Columbia, where he investigates the aesthetics of racialized representation of Blackness across the transnational cinemas of the Indian Ocean. His writings and poetry have appeared in Cinephile, MediaCommons, and The Ubyssey. As a video essayist, he co-produced the mockumentary essay film "The Lighthouse: A Film by Robert J. Flaherty," which premiered at the 57th Pesaro Film Festival and was listed on Sight & Sound’s Best Video Essays 2021.
