Academic Profile
Raheleh Filsoofi
Biography
Raheleh Filsoofi received her BFA in Fine Arts with a specialization in ceramics from Alzahra University in Tehran. Moving to Miami in 2003, she assisted several renowned ceramic artists and taught at the Ceramic League of Miami.
As an Iranian woman and artist, she is interested in exploring the feminine character and issues regarding women in society. Her work is steeped in the mythology and cultural memory of her native country. In her art, which extends to photography and printmaking, she addresses the consciousness, sensitivity and mystery of women and especially the aura of Middle Eastern women as seen by others and themselves.
She has participated in juried art shows in Iran and the United States, including The Ceramic Exhibition at Swenson Gallery in Miami, Florida (2010) and National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts in Tampa, Florida (2011) and
Continuum Exhibition, The Cultural Council of Palm Beach, Lake Worth, FL.2012. Currently she is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree with a specialization in ceramics at Florida Atlantic University and she has received several awards including a Presidential Fellowship. Her research in Iran was supported by a Chastain-Johnston Middle East Grant from the FAU Peace Studies program.
