Nasser Fakouhi

Academic Profile

Nasser Fakouhi is an associate professor of anthropology in faculty of Social Sciences in University of Tehran. Science his return to Iran in 1993, he has focused primarily his work to rebuild the Modern and contemporary anthropology. Urban and political anthropology and recently urban cultures and urban cultural history of Iran have been his special domains. Fakouhi has published largely in Persian language but his works in English and french are limited. Some of his works in Persian are : Urban Anthropology( Ney, 2005); History of anthropological thought and theories(Ney,2004); Iranian Identity, Ethnicity: Articulation and Conflict(Golazin , 2010), Political Mythology( Ferdos, 2000); Among his English and french work: Conceptualizing Iranian Anthropology( edited by: Sh. Najmabadi, Oxford, Berghahn, 2009); Le pique nique ou l'eloge d'un bonheur ordinaire( Edited by: Fracine Barthes, Paris, Breal, 2008). Fakouhi is also a translator into Persian from french and English specially of French thinkers (Barthes, Bourdieu, Bloch, Breton, Riviere etc. ). He has been founder member and former President of Iranian Association of Anthropology and has been elected times in the director board of Iranian association of Sociology where he has been a vice president. Nasser Fakouhi has thought anthropology and sociology in Iran and France. Since he founded a specialist site named anthropology and culture . In this site has been transformed to Iranian Institute of Anthropology and Culture, where many Iranian and non Iranian scholars collaborate with him as the director of the Institute.
