My research revolves around the international dimension of socio-political change focusing on the non-Western experiences of modernity. Over the last few years I have been exploring this theme in relation to the Iranian Revolution through a critical application of the concept of uneven and combined development. This has generated a few articles/book-chapters and a book entitled 'Recasting Iranian Modernity: International Relations and Social Change' published by Routledge (2013). More recently, I have become interested in conducting a critical dialogue between postcolonial theory and uneven and combined development. I am also interested in international theory, historical sociology, Marxist IR theories, nation-state formation, 'Third World' revolutionary ideologies/histories, and Iranian modernity.
