The Association for Iranian Studies (AIS) expresses profound sadness over the two devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria last week and resulted in widescale destruction and a staggering loss of life. We join our colleagues in the field in seeking ways to provide support to affected scholars, students, and their families. This catastrophic tragedy has led to upwards of 41,000 deaths and has gravely disrupted life for the victims’ families and survivors. We share in this heartbreak that has distressed our community of scholars, students, and friends in the region.
