Raffaele Mauriello

Academic Profile

Raffaele Mauriello (PhD, Sapienza University of Rome) is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages, Allameh Tabataba‘i University in Tehran. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Master’s program in Geopolitics and Global Security at the Sapienza University of Rome and an External Associate Member of the Standing Research Group “Study Group on Persian Peoples” at the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid. Dr. Mauriello is a historian and linguist specializing in Global Studies, Iran, Shi‘ism, the Near East, and Latin America. He was awarded The World Prize for Book of the Year for his monograph Descendants of the Family of the Prophet in Contemporary History: A Case Study, the Šī‘ī Religious Establishment of al-Nağaf (Iraq) (2013) and the International Journalistic and Literary Award Marzani (2020). He is co-editor of the book series Islamicate and Ibero-American World Connections (Brill) and Islam and Global Studies (Palgrave).
